About Front Range Ledger
Clear books, higher ground.
A Denver CPA & advisory firm built to be the year-round partner small businesses rarely get — clean books, proactive tax strategy, and a real person who answers the phone.
Why we started Front Range Ledger
Our founder, Dana Whitfield, spent the first decade of her career as a CPA inside larger firms — and kept watching the same thing happen. A small business would pay for a tax return once a year, hand over a shoebox of receipts, and get near-silence for the other eleven months. The advice that actually saved money — the entity election, the quarterly plan, the clean set of books — only ever seemed to reach the big clients.
In 2017, Dana opened Front Range Ledger in Denver to be the opposite of that. The idea was simple, almost stubborn: give a small business the kind of year-round financial partner that used to be reserved for companies ten times its size. Put the books, the taxes, and the advice under one roof so nothing falls through the cracks between them. And answer the phone — in April, and in every other month too.
That first year was two people and a handful of clients who took a chance on a brand-new firm. We grew the way we hoped to: almost entirely by referral, one Front Range business owner telling another that, for once, their accountant called them first. Today we look after more than 250 businesses across Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs — and the firm still runs on that original promise.
What we stand for
Clear before clever, every time
Our mission is simple: give every small business the year-round financial partner that used to be reserved for the big ones. These are the principles we don’t bend on.
Clear before clever
If a sentence needs a glossary, we rewrite it. You should always understand your own numbers.
Proactive over reactive
“Here’s what I’d do,” not just “here’s what happened.” We plan before the deadline, not after.
Year-round, not year-end
The savings live in the planning, so that’s where we spend our time — every month, not just April.
Local and human
A trusted Denver neighbor who happens to be very good with numbers — and who picks up the phone.
From the founder
Why I still answer the phone in July
I started Front Range Ledger because I was tired of watching good business owners get ignored until tax season — handed a bill in April and near-silence the other eleven months.
So we built the opposite. Clean books, a tax plan you actually understand, and a real person who picks up when you call. Nine years and 250+ businesses later, that’s still the whole job.

Our story
How we got here
2017 — We opened our doors
Dana Whitfield starts Front Range Ledger in Denver with a single idea: small-business clients deserve a year-round partner.
2019 — Books and tax, together
We bring bookkeeping and tax under one roof so the planning and the filing finally talk to each other.
2022 — Advisory & fractional CFO
Clients ask us to help with the bigger decisions, so we add forecasting, pricing, and CFO-level guidance.
Today — 250+ Front Range businesses
A Denver team serving owners from Boulder to Colorado Springs — still growing mostly by referral.
Rooted here
A Denver firm, by design
We’re not a national call center with a Colorado area code. Front Range Ledger was started in Denver, staffed by Denver, and built around the way business actually works along the Front Range.
That means we know Colorado’s rules, we keep local hours, and we grow the way we always have — one Boulder, Fort Collins, or Colorado Springs owner telling another that, for once, their accountant calls them first.
